ZONE 1 - ORANG ASLI  PROJECT ( Kuala Koh Settlements )

The Orang Asli of Kuala Koh also known as the Bateq tribe lives in the interior of Kelantan and Pahang. In order to track down their whereabouts, we have to engage guides.  There are about 30 families at the first settlement and another 20 families further in the jungle of Kuala Koh.  Thanks to  our O/C  and a Japanese student, Aya Kawai from Chiba University who is there doing her research on these people for the arrangements. The project was participated by all the clubs in Zone 1, including the LEOs and Lioness.

We wish to extend our apologies to our Indian and Punjabi Lion members  who are unable to join us for this project as it  has coincided with their New Year celebration. We wish to take this opportunity to wish them a very Happy Tamil New Year and Happy Vaisakhi too.

This project includes :
1) Community Caring Service :
a) We contributed a variety of food items viz -  canned food, rice , bread , biscuits, beehoon, eggs, sugar,  cooking oil etc.
b)  300 pair of shoes & slippers
c) Toys & snacks for the children (by LC Kuala Krai)

2) Medical service
a) In conjuction with the ORAL HEALTH MONTH 2012 , LC Kuala Krai invited the Klinik Pergigian Daerah,  Kuala Krai to come along.Pegawai,  Klinik Sister Maziah Bt Abdullah & 4 dental nurses were present, to distribute toothbrushes and toothpaste and also demonstrated to the children the correct way to brush teeth.
b) Medication for skin infections & hair lice and Paracetamol - sponsored by Lion Dr. Joginder Singh Rakhra  (RM1000.00)
3) Environment
a) a of supply head lamps & batteries and encouraging the Orang Asli on the proper disposal of old batteries.
b) a collection of old banners to be used as roof tops and coverings.
d) old clothings , shoes and toys
e) cooking utensils, containers and bottles

4) Zone 1 fellowship and family day
We had fellowship and lunch at the Taman Negara which was prepared  by LC Gua Musang and sponsored by Ln Chu & Ln Lim. We enjoyed ourselves.

The Penghulu thank us for our visit and donations.  In return he presented a Tongkak Ali tree for our Zone 1 tree planting project .(presented to LN Lim Hoe Guan)

We left the place with a sense of satisfaction and happiness. We will definitely come back again next year to serve them
