Basic Sign Language couse are conducted in English & Malay by MS Rose NG from Society of Interpreters for the Deaf, Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan- email: roseyyn@gmail.com. This is a good and interesting course and at the end of the day, our Lion members have to present our Lions and Birthday song using sign language. Everybody was also given a Lion's Book of signs as a souvenir.

Deepavali at SJK Pasir Gajah
DEEPAVALI JOYS AT SJK PASIR GAJAH

SJK (T) Pasir Gajah is the only Tamil School in Kelantan. It is situated about 13 km from Kuala Krai on 3.4 acres of land in the middle of Pasir Gajah Estate. This place is always flooded during the monsoon season especially the bridge which is the only exit link.
The Organising Chairman is also the Headmaster of of S.J.K. (T ) PASIR GAJAH. This school consists of 33 Indian students, 8 teachers(outstation), 2 staffs, 4 general workers and 2 guards. LC of Kuala Krai celebrated Deepavali with the students and distributed "Deepavali Angpows, drinks, cakes to all of them. We also distributed 5 hampers to the Indian senior citizens.
4 Incentive angpow was given to 4 top UPSR students with 5A, 3A, 2A & 1A.

THE 2nd.ZONE 1 ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING was held at the new Kota Bharu Down Syndrome Centre hosted by LC Kota Bharu. We wish to extend our Congratulations to them for having nice and well equip building. We have the usual meeing with our ZC Tan Kok WEi and RC Sunny Tan. At the meeting we were informed of the latest contests, programs and conference.

Deepavali Open House
Lions & Lioness met together at the Residency of Lion Treasurer Nyanasegeri
to share the Festival of Lights- Deepavali Joy with his family ,relative & friends.
A sumptuous lunch was served at the table, we all enjoyed the Nasi India & the

ORANG ASLI ZONE 1 PROJECT

Date : 5th. Nov, 2010 (Loving Friday - Deepavali )

The Orang Asli of Kuala Koh also known as the Bateq tribe are a group of nomads living in the interior of Kelantan and Pahang. In order to track down their whereabouts, we have to engage guides to track them down. We found out that during the monsoon season, they will regather in the Orang Asli Settlement in Kuala Koh. Therefore our visit has to be scheduled during this time which also coincides with Deepavali. We wish to extend our apologies to our Hindu Lion Members who are unable to join us and also wish to take this opportunity to wish them a very Happy Deepavali.
This project includes :
1) Love Community Project :
We provided adequate supply of food to them for the monsoon season. These food includes canned food, rice, bread , biscuits, beehoon, eggs, sugar, cooking oil etc.
2) Medical services
a) Medication for skin infections, panadol, oral anti fungals & cream, Ubat kutu which is sponsored by by Dr. Jo, Tommy and Malaysia Medical Association. Dr. Tee provided free services to the Orang Asli for the application of the medicines.
b) Dental services by the Klinik Gigi Kuala Krai - (DR. NOREHAN) Sister Maziah Bt Abdullah & 4 staff.
They also provide toothbrush and toothpaste for the children and adults. They demonstrated the correct way of brushing and posters was put up. lLioness Wong Pek See also sang a simple song to encourage the children to brush teeth ( organized by LC Kuala Krai ).
3) Environment
a) supply head lamps & batteries
b) we encourage the orang asli to collect old batteries for proper disposal
c) Old banners were used to cover roof tops and bamboo huts
d) Old clothings , shoes and toys
e) Containers and bottles
4) Zone 1 fellowship and family day
We had lunch at the Taman Negara which was sponsored by LC Gua Musang. We enjoyed canopy walks at The Taman Negara.During this trip, we also found out that a foreign student from Japan called Aya kawai from Chiba University- PHD Student has been living with these tribe for about a month to study about them and their way of life. We feel that she is extremely brave to live amongst this people.
5) Service for children
LC kuala krai- provides a lot of goodies and toys to the children. Thanks to our Lion Ang Siew Cheng and lioness Wong Pek See
and Lew Moie
Altogether 7 clubs joined in namely Lions club of Kota Bharu, Kota Budaya, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang, Lioness Club of Kuala Krai, Leo Club of Chong Chen, Leo Club of Gua Musang . About 200 orang asli came from the mountains to join in this event.
The Penghulu thank us for our visit and donations specially to our O/c Tommy Tan who organized this outing. We consider this trip an overall success as we managed to provide comfort, necessities and medical attention to the needy. We all left with a sense of satisfaction and pride. We will definitely come back again next year to help them.
